Iron Raven Plate Calc ("Plate Calc") is made by Jason Swalwell, trading as Iron Raven ("we"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Plate Calc iOS app. It sits alongside our terms of use.
The short version
Plate Calc doesn't collect, send or share the weights, gym setups or plate lists you enter. That information stays on your device. The only thing the app sends is anonymous crash and error reports, so we can fix problems.
What the app stores
The app stores the following only on your device, in the app's own storage:
- Gym profiles — names you give each gym, plus per-gym settings: plate inventory, bar weight and saved bars, kg or lb plate set, gym vs competition setup, and your in-progress calculator (target weight, stack mode plates, and similar)
- Display preferences — such as showing weights in kg or lb, light or dark appearance
- Saved gym bars — names and weights you add for each profile
- Recent loads — a short list of weights you've calculated recently (to tap and reuse)
- Free tier usage — which successful plate calculations have counted toward the free limit (not your name or Apple ID)
- Pro unlock status — whether the app has verified an in-app purchase with Apple on this device
We have no servers for this app and no way to see your gym data. It is never included in crash reports.
Global vs per gym: The unit you choose for showing totals (kg or lb) applies across the app. Plate inventory, saved bars and bar settings belong to each gym profile.
Information about other people
The app doesn't ask for names of lifters or coaches. If you use saved bar names or notes that identify someone else, that stays on your device and we never receive it.
Accounts and sign-in
Plate Calc doesn't use accounts or sign-in. There is nothing for us to look up about you on a server.
Purchases
The optional one-time Pro unlock is processed by Apple through the App Store. We don't receive your payment details. The app asks Apple, on your device, whether Pro has been purchased. Restore purchases uses the same Apple ID check.
Sharing
The app doesn't upload your loads or settings. If you use iOS features outside the app (for example copying text or a screenshot), that's between you and the app you share to. We don't receive a copy.
Crash and error reports
If the app crashes or hits an unexpected error, it may send a report to Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.), which we use to find and fix bugs. Reports are stored in Sentry's EU data region.
A report contains technical details: the app version, the device model and iOS version, what went wrong and where in the code, and a short trail of recent app events. It doesn't contain your target weights, plate breakdowns, gym profile names, inventory, saved bars or any other data you've entered, your name, your Apple ID or your IP address. Reports aren't linked to you and aren't used for advertising or tracking. Sentry keeps them for a limited period and then deletes them.
Our legal basis for crash reports is our legitimate interest in keeping the app working reliably.
Analytics, advertising and tracking
The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code. Apart from crash and error reports, and communication with Apple for in-app purchases, it makes no network requests of its own for your personal data.
Backups by iOS
Like other app data, your Plate Calc data may be included in your device's iCloud or computer backups, depending on your iOS settings. Those backups are controlled by you and Apple. We don't operate iCloud sync for gym profiles in the current version.
Deleting your data
Delete the app to remove its data from the device. You can also clear calculator state within the app (for example clearing a target or stack, editing inventory, or deleting gym profiles you no longer need). Because we don't hold your gym data on our systems, there's nothing for us to delete on our side.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you have rights over your personal data, including to access it, correct it and have it deleted. Because everything you enter stays on your device, you can do all of this yourself in the app. If you have a question or concern, contact us below. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.
Children
The app isn't directed at children and doesn't knowingly collect any information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above.
